Rachael Leigh Cook recently addressed her past working relationship with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, her co-star in the 1995 film "Tom and Huck." Speaking on a podcast in March 2026, Cook clarified that she did not develop a crush on Thomas, despite his immense popularity as a teen heartthrob.
Cook, who was 15 during filming, mentioned that she was unaware of Thomas's fame from "Home Improvement," which she felt helped her avoid the widespread "mania" surrounding him. She also highlighted a noticeable age difference, noting she was 15 while Thomas was around 12 and a half, a gap that felt significant at the time.
Reflecting on her co-stars, Cook described Thomas as "very funny" and "wildly smart." She also spoke about Brad Renfro, who was also 12 but possessed a maturity beyond his years, likening him to a "touring jazz musician."
Cook shared that she and Renfro spent downtime exploring Huntsville, Alabama, finding it to be a "crazy" but "awesome experience." Thomas, however, often stayed with his family, limiting their closeness off-set. She expressed that she would have welcomed a friendship with him.
Thomas himself has previously spoken about leaving Hollywood at his career's peak to pursue education and travel, having worked continuously since age eight. Renfro tragically died in 2008 from a heroin overdose at age 25.
