A popular television series, which first aired in 2019, is now seeking new contestants for its upcoming sixth season. This unique competition challenges duos to race across the globe with a £20,000 prize for the winners, but participants are stripped of modern conveniences like phones, internet, and flights, navigating only with limited cash.
Former winners have described the experience as "surreal and life-changing." Cathie Rowe, 50, and Tricia Sail, 49, who won series three racing from Vancouver to Newfoundland, highlighted how the journey empowered them. Tricia, who has a degenerative eye condition, proved that disability need not be a barrier, stating, "Since going on the show I now give things a go." Cathie also found the "off the grid" experience boosted her confidence in travel.
Another pair, Fin Gough, 19, and Sioned Cray, 21, who competed in 2025 and finished third in a race through China, Nepal, and India, also found the experience transformative. Despite initial apprehension about being without phones, they now find travelling "easier and more enjoyable." They have since visited sixteen countries and plan further adventures. The application deadline for the next series is March 29, 2026.
