Madhavan noted that financial stability has never been absolute, thus maintaining his hunger for more challenging roles.

Madhavan also expressed his unsuitability for a star's lifestyle, finding it difficult to maintain the public persona often expected. He consciously chose unconventional roles early in his career, like playing a father in 'Kannathil Muthamittal' shortly after a romantic lead in 'Alaipayuthey', a move many advised against.
