Summary
- Queen Camilla will replace a missing Winnie-the-Pooh toy at the New York Public Library.
- The original stuffed toys inspired AA Milne's famous Winnie-the-Pooh stories.
- The gift coincides with the centenary of the first Winnie-the-Pooh book.

Queen Camilla will present a replacement toy kangaroo, Roo, to the New York Public Library during an upcoming state visit to the US. The original Roo, part of the collection that inspired AA Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh stories, was lost in the 1930s. The library currently displays the original Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga, and Tigger toys from the 1920s.
This visit and gift also celebrate the centenary of the first Winnie-the-Pooh book's publication. The royal soft toy exchange is being described as 'royal soft (toy) power' and highlights the enduring cultural significance of the characters. The toy animals themselves have a history of transatlantic travel, having toured the US in 1947.
The Queen's visit to the library is part of her broader campaign to promote reading and literacy. The state visit to New York on Wednesday will also include a visit to the 9/11 Memorial, where the King and Queen will meet with first responders and families affected by the attacks.
