Queen Camilla recently visited Ashdown Forest in East Sussex to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first Winnie-the-Pooh books. This significant centenary celebrates the enduring legacy of AA Milne's beloved creation.
As patron of the Royal Literary Fund, Queen Camilla unveiled a new walking trail named Queen's Walk. She described Winnie-the-Pooh as a 'universal hero' enjoyed worldwide.
The Queen then participated in a game of poohsticks at the iconic Poohsticks Bridge, a pastime inspired by the books. She played alongside children's authors and local children, recalling her own childhood enjoyment of the game.
This visit to the woodland, which inspired Milne's stories, also included meeting local children and conservation staff. The Queen officially opened the trail at a memorial site dedicated to Milne and illustrator EH Shepard.
