23 Aug
Summary
- Movie falsely claims Queen joined Live Aid last minute.
- Freddie Mercury's HIV diagnosis timeline significantly altered.
- Rock in Rio concert date inaccurately portrayed in film.

The 2018 film Bohemian Rhapsody, a biopic about the band Queen, has been criticized for its significant historical inaccuracies concerning the band's timeline and Freddie Mercury's life.
Contrary to the film's portrayal, Queen was not a last-minute addition to the 1985 Live Aid concert; they were involved from the concert's inception. The band had also recently concluded a world tour and was not on hiatus as suggested by the movie. The film also misrepresents the date of the Rock in Rio concert, placing it earlier than its actual occurrence in January 1985.
Even more egregious, the movie falsely depicts Freddie Mercury receiving his HIV diagnosis before the Live Aid performance. In reality, Mercury likely did not know his status at that time and was not diagnosed until 1987, four years after the concert. This manipulation of Mercury's personal history is cited as particularly frustrating, overshadowing other minor inaccuracies in the film.
