- Station will offer news, talk shows, and international music.
- Aims to be a voice for the growing Punjabi community.

A new Punjabi-language radio station, Connect Winnipeg 1290 AM, is set to launch in Winnipeg next Monday, expanding Connect Media Network's presence across Western Canada. The station aims to fill a void by providing local news, talk shows, and music programming in Punjabi, catering to the city's growing South Asian population.
Director of operations Tejinder Singh highlighted the need for an "editorial voice" that speaks to the community in its own language. News director Pervez Sandhu stated that experienced journalists will focus on community field reporting, ensuring "community stories told by community people."
Station host Prachi Saini expressed her excitement to highlight issues affecting Punjabi speakers, such as extortion crimes and past attacks on women. She emphasized that Winnipeg was a crucial location for such a station, and the team intends to be a supportive voice for the community.
Connect Media Network acquired the station, previously known as CFRW (1290 AM), with approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission last October. The station expects to reach 50,000 to 60,000 listeners in Winnipeg, with additional accessibility through online streaming and the network's app.
