Summary
- A 19th-century Haveli in Kapurthala, Punjab, will be restored.
- It will be transformed into a center for heritage, learning, and music.
- The project focuses on preserving endangered musical traditions like Gurbani Sangeet.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed to restore the 19th-century Haveli Diwan Hari Chand in Kapurthala, Punjab. The Anad Foundation, New Delhi, is partnering with the owner family to regenerate the historic property. The goal is to create a living center for heritage, learning, and community engagement.
This initiative will transform the approximately 2,983 sq ft Haveli into a campus focused on conservation and performance. Special attention will be given to musical traditions, especially Gurbani Sangeet, instrument-making, and archival work. The restoration will prioritize vernacular materials and traditional building techniques, respecting the original architecture.
The project aims to demonstrate that historic buildings can serve as active centers for endangered music and study, rather than mere tourist attractions. It represents a commitment to preserving cultural and architectural heritage for future generations.
