Holland confirms gritty Punisher for Spidey film
31 May
Summary
- Jon Bernthal's Punisher will retain his violent nature.
- Filmmakers found fun ways to handle Punisher's violence.
- The Punisher's presence will make Spider-Man uncomfortable.
Tom Holland has addressed fan concerns regarding the inclusion of Jon Bernthal's Punisher in the upcoming 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day.' Holland reassured audiences that the character's notoriously violent and R-rated nature will not be toned down for the film. Filmmakers are reportedly developing inventive methods to integrate Frank Castle's brutal methods into Peter Parker's world.
The intention is for Bernthal's Punisher to serve as a stark contrast to Spider-Man's ethos, making Peter uncomfortable and forcing him to confront the darker aspects of grief and vigilantism. This dynamic is expected to be particularly impactful following the events of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home,' which left Peter isolated.
Bernthal's recent appearances in 'Daredevil: Born Again' and 'The Punisher: One Last Kill' have kept the character firmly rooted in Marvel's darker, street-level narratives. 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is slated for release on July 31, 2026.
