Puerto Rican Actor Finds Solace in Vermont's Tranquility

In 2025, Luis Guzmán, the acclaimed actor known for his roles in films like Boogie Nights and Magnolia, continues to find solace in the tranquility of Vermont, where he has resided since 1995.

Guzmán, who currently stars in the hit series Wednesday, first visited Vermont in 1974 while working as a social worker in New York City. The state's natural beauty and sense of community captivated him, and he eventually made the decision to move there permanently over two decades ago.

Guzmán now owns a sprawling 700-acre farm in the small town of Cabot, where he raises livestock and enjoys the simple pleasures of rural life. "I'm lucky to be here," he reflects. "I'm lucky to have the neighbors that I have. I take a lot of pride in telling people that I live in Vermont."

However, Guzmán's children have faced some challenges due to their Puerto Rican heritage, as he acknowledges that "there are some places here that really don't know how to embrace, how to accept, how to understand people of color." Despite these occasional difficulties, Guzmán remains deeply committed to his Vermont community.

In a recent act of generosity, Guzmán won $30,000 on the game show Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and chose to donate the winnings to Neighbors in Action, a local nonprofit that provides meals and assistance to residents of Cabot and the neighboring town of Lyndonville. "This organization really stepped up for all the people here in town," Guzmán says. "We all give. We all give our time, people here show up every day. This is not about me. This is about community, and I'm just another piece in this community."
