"Turandot," set in ancient China, follows Prince Calaf as he solves the riddles posed by Princess Turandot. Puccini's score ends after Calaf's triumph and the tragic self-sacrifice of Liù, leaving the opera unfinished.
Puccini died in November 1924 after being diagnosed with throat cancer, having experienced a creative block and dissatisfaction with the opera's libretto. His unfinished "Turandot" has since inspired various completions, including Tin's recent version.
