Prue Leith: Death is 'comforting' as she nears end
27 Feb
Summary
- Leith, 86, finds comfort in her limited remaining years.
- She believes AI or war will 'see us off'.
- She is filming a new travelogue in South Africa.

At 86, Prue Leith has revealed a surprisingly optimistic outlook on her own mortality, describing the thought of limited time left as 'comforting.' She views old age as a natural phase of life, not necessarily a tragedy, and anticipates potential future global events such as AI or war with a sense of detachment, knowing she won't be present to experience them.
Leith announced her departure from The Great British Bake Off last month, citing a desire to reduce her workload and enjoy her retirement more. However, she has already begun filming a new travelogue in her native South Africa, which is expected to air later this year on Channel 4. She will be joined on this venture by former Bake Off host Sandi Toksvig.
The TV chef had been contemplating leaving the show for some time, seeking a better balance between work and leisure. Previously, filming Bake Off and its associated specials occupied her summers, preventing her from taking holidays. She expressed that her marbles have thankfully stayed in place, allowing her to continue a job she loved for nine years, but the growing desire to 'work less and play more' ultimately led to her decision.
