Filming commenced 14 months prior to the current date and is expected to continue for another six months, totaling a 20-month production schedule. The film is being shot in IMAX format to enhance the cinematic experience.
Varanasi marks Chopra's comeback to Bollywood since her last appearance in The Sky Is Pink. The film's official title was revealed in November 2025, and it is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 7, 2027. Her husband, Nick Jonas, had previously hinted at the film's extensive shooting schedule, noting her 14-month commitment.
