Producer Ektaa Kapoor has disclosed that Priyanka Chopra had initially agreed to star in a film adaptation of the Naagin myth. This plan was conceived before the project was transformed into a television series.
Kapoor shared that she had approached two prominent actresses for the film. One actress accepted the role but later relocated to the US, prompting Kapoor to consider a television adaptation instead. Earlier interviews indicated that Priyanka Chopra was the one who agreed, while Katrina Kaif had declined, questioning the commercial viability of a 'Naagin' film.
The film adaptation never materialized. However, the television series, launched in 2015 with Mouni Roy, achieved significant popularity and has spawned multiple seasons, currently airing its seventh. Balaji Telefilms is reportedly reconsidering a feature film adaptation of the franchise for the big screen.
Meanwhile, other film projects centered on the Naagin theme are also in development. Producer Nikhil Dwivedi had announced a separate film, and Karan Johar is producing a fantasy comedy titled 'Naagzilla' starring Kartik Aaryan, set for release on August 14.
