Diana's Tapes Reveal Fears for Harry's Future

Newly surfaced recordings from 1991 are shedding light on Princess Diana's private concerns regarding her sons, William and Harry. A royal expert suggests Diana worried from the outset that Prince Harry might feel overshadowed by his older brother, Prince William, who is destined to be king. These candid audio tapes, originally used for Andrew Morton's biography, are now featured in the upcoming documentary 'Diana Unheard.'

Diana expressed confidence in William's ability to handle the future demands of kingship, describing him as wise and mature. However, she reportedly had apprehensions about how the 'heir-and-spare' dynamic within the monarchy could impact Harry, fearing it might lead to insecurity. Despite this, Diana believed in the strong bond between her sons, seeing them as a unit who would always support each other.

Another royal expert agrees Diana understood the differing paths for her sons, with William born to be king and Harry in a supporting role. This expert suggests Diana was more concerned about the immense pressures on William as future king than any potential rift between the brothers. Both experts believe Diana would be heartbroken by the current estrangement between William and Harry, a situation exacerbated by events unfolding after her tragic death in August 1997.

While Diana was known for challenging royal conventions, experts caution against interpreting her past concerns through the lens of current events. They suggest that while she understood Harry might forge his own path, she likely would not have approved of him abandoning his royal duties so abruptly, given her own strong sense of duty and history within the monarchy.
