Prince Harry "Hurt and Upset" by Backlash Over Meghan's Paris Trip
13 Oct
Summary
- Meghan Markle criticized for Instagram video showing her feet up in Paris
- Backlash claimed she was near site of Princess Diana's death
- Prince Harry "left hurt and upset" by the criticism of his wife

Earlier this month, Meghan Markle made her debut at Paris Fashion Week, attending the Balenciaga show. However, her trip to the "City of Lights" has sparked controversy and upset her husband, Prince Harry.
Meghan shared an Instagram video of herself riding in a car through Paris with her feet up. Critics quickly called the move insensitive, claiming she was close to the Pont d'Alma tunnel where Harry's mother, Princess Diana, tragically died in 1997 at the age of 36.
However, sources close to the couple say it was a "hell of a stretch" to suggest Meghan purposefully drove past the location. In fact, they reveal that Harry was "left hurt and upset" by the backlash, with one source stating: "Diana's death was used as a stick to beat his wife with. [Meghan] did not even pass close to the tunnel."
The source added that Harry was "more despondent than shocked" by the criticism, as he has long tried to protect his wife and family from what he sees as unkind and agenda-driven media narratives. Though Meghan never got to meet her mother-in-law, Harry has previously spoken about the similarities between Diana and his wife, praising Meghan's compassion, empathy, and warmth.
Despite the controversy, Meghan's love for Paris is well-documented. In a 2014 blog post, she mused about the city's "inherent chicness" and romantic allure, from the Eiffel Tower to the River Seine.
