Prince Christian: Royal life brings hidden struggles

Crown Prince Christian of Denmark, heir to the throne, recently reflected on the unique challenges of his royal upbringing in an interview marking his 21st birthday. He candidly shared that his parents, King Frederik and Queen Mary, sometimes lacked time to take him to school, necessitating others to drive him. Christian detailed the constant presence of bodyguards, describing how two men were always around him. He also spoke about the struggle of maintaining his own identity while observing the paths of his father and grandmother. His education included nursery at Queen Louise's Kindergarten and public schooling, graduating from Ordrup Gymnasium in 2024. Post-graduation, Christian commenced military training, appointed a second lieutenant in June 2026. He continues as a sub-lieutenant and section leader in the Royal Guard. On October 15, 2026, his 21st birthday, Christian received the Grand Cross of the Order of Dannebrog, Denmark's highest royal honor, from his father. This significant award was displayed in official photographs showing him in military uniform. The Crown Prince also enjoys hunting and golf with King Frederik and prioritizes family dinners. He attends music festivals with friends and his sister, Princess Isabella, and aims to be himself despite public scrutiny. Looking ahead, Christian will continue his military service until the summer of 2027. The matter of his royal allowance will be addressed once he establishes his own household.
