Prime Video has released its first English-language Italian original, "Love Me Love Me," a YA romance adapted from Stefania S.'s novel, which garnered 24 million reads on Wattpad. The film follows 16-year-old June, portrayed by Mia Jenkins, as she navigates a new life and a love triangle at an elite international school in Milan following her brother's death.
The story features a compelling cast, including Spain's Pepe Barroso as James, a charismatic student involved in clandestine MMA fights. The production, a collaboration between Leone Group, Amazon MGM Studios, and Wattpad Webtoon Studios, aims to capitalize on the novel's substantial global fanbase.
Nicole Morganti, Prime Video's Head of Local Originals Southern Europe, emphasized that the film aligns perfectly with the streamer's global Young Adult production strategy. This initiative has previously yielded successes like the "Culpables" trilogy.
Raffaella Leone, Co-CEO of Leone Film Group, noted that the film's adaptation was a strategic move, leveraging the book's initial digital success before its print publication. The international cast, maintaining their accents while speaking English, adds to the film's diverse and engaging atmosphere, reflecting the novel's emotional nuances through its cinematography and soundtrack.
