Prime Video Orders 3 New Australian True Crime & Sports Docs

Prime Video is expanding its Australian content library with three new original commissions, set to debut from 2027. This move signifies a continued investment in local storytelling, bringing the total number of Australian titles to 34 since 2019.

The new series include two true-crime docuseries. "Free Spirits: The Backpacker Poisonings" (w/t) will reconstruct a tragedy involving backpackers in Southeast Asia, utilizing personal footage and family interviews. "Madness of Three" will investigate the 2022 killings in Wieambilla, Queensland, exploring the influence of conspiracy theories and online radicalization on the perpetrators.

Additionally, the popular sports documentary "The Test" will return for its fourth season. This installment will chronicle the Australian men's cricket team's journeys, including their upcoming series in India and the Ashes. These commissions underscore a dedication to capturing compelling Australian narratives, from significant sporting events to impactful true crime stories.

Sarah Christie, head of Australian and New Zealand originals at Amazon MGM Studios, emphasized the global importance of local success, stating that these series will resonate with Australian audiences while captivating international viewers with powerful, authentic stories.
