Keith David voices President Andre Curtis in the new Adult Swim series, President Curtis, which premiered Sunday. The spinoff follows the leader of the free world and his unique staff as they face various unconventional challenges.
President Curtis, a character voiced by David since 2015, is a natural extension of the Rick and Morty universe. Co-creator James Siciliano noted that the show could explore an "X-Files world" distinct from the flagship series.
Creators discussed drawing inspiration from memorable real-life presidents like Harry S. Truman and Teddy Roosevelt, blending their legendary aspects into the character. The series has secured an early renewal for a second season, announced at San Diego Comic-Con.
Rick and Morty themselves appear in the pilot episode, though not in subsequent first-season episodes, as the creators aim for the show to establish its own identity. This expansion comes as Rick and Morty earned its third Emmy nomination for best animated series.
