Prateek Rajagopal, a composer and producer with Tamil and Malayali heritage, has made his Indian film debut with Bejoy Nambiar's "Tu Yaa Main." His journey into the Indian cinema landscape follows six and a half years in Hollywood, where he assisted notable composers Ludwig Göransson and Joseph Shirley on projects including "Star Wars: The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett." This experience provided him with a firsthand look at top-tier industry practices. Rajagopal noted that his friend, actor Adarsh Gourav, played a key role in connecting him to both "Tu Yaa Main" and his upcoming Telugu film, "Birthday."
Interestingly, Rajagopal composed a significant amount of music for "Tu Yaa Main" before seeing any visual material. He mentioned that his friend Adarsh Gourav had been recommending him for projects without his knowledge. Rajagopal observed distinctions between the Indian and Hollywood music industries, noting that South Indian films often appreciate background scores more, while Bollywood tends to be more song-driven. His next project, "Birthday," is a Telugu film directed by Baba Shashank, featuring Adarsh Gourav in the lead role. This debut Telugu film is set to feature experimental music, blending genres such as metal, orchestral, and electronic.
