Power Trip has unveiled "Precinct 3" and "Scavenger," their first musical output since the untimely death of vocalist Riley Gale in 2020. The Dallas-based thrash metal group, comprised of founding members guitarist Blake Ibanez, guitarist Nick Stewart, bassist Chris Whetzel, and drummer Chris Ulsh, reunited in 2024 with singer Seth Gilmore for live performances.
These performances paved the way for studio sessions with Gilmore, leading to the creation of the band's third full-length album, scheduled for release in spring 2027. This forthcoming LP marks their first since 2017's Nightmare Logic and their debut with Gilmore on vocals.
Guitarist Blake Ibanez stated the lyrical approach focused on what Riley Gale might have written, a process that felt natural and respectful. The album was recorded at Texas' Empire Sound studio with producer Jacob Hansen, who was chosen for his blend of modern production knowledge and underground metal roots.
The band's new label, Blue Grape Music, will release both the album and a seven-inch single for "Precinct 3." Power Trip is also set to play three additional shows in 2026, including a support slot for Slayer's Reign of Blood 40th Anniversary event in Mexico City on October 21 and a performance at Sick New World Texas on October 24.
