Summary
- Over 30 monumental lobster sculptures adorn Pompeii's ancient ruins.
- It is the first contemporary sculpture exhibition in Pompeii in 30 years.
- The exhibition extends to multiple archaeological sites across Campania.

Visitors to Pompeii this summer encounter over 30 monumental lobster sculptures by British artist Philip Colbert. The "Pop Mythology" exhibition, his largest to date, uniquely blends contemporary pop art with the ancient Roman city's ruins. This installation is a significant event, being the first contemporary sculpture exhibition in Pompeii in 30 years.
Colbert's work, inspired by a famous Pompeian mosaic, features stainless-steel and robotic lobster figures integrated within the archaeological site. The exhibition aims to encourage a new perspective on Pompeii, viewing it as a living cultural landscape where past and present artistic elements coexist.
The exhibition extends beyond Pompeii's main site to include other archaeological locations in the Campania region, forming a contemporary art trail. This ambitious project seeks to connect contemporary art with both local communities and international visitors, running until early 2027.
