The musical duo Planta Industrial, comprised of Saso and akathedarknight, is making waves with their distinctive fusion of punk, metal, dembow, and rap. They recently earned LAMC's 2025 Discovery Award and performed at Summerstage, capping off a significant year with their new EP, 'Punk Wave Sin Barreras Volume 1: Conociéndonos.' This project is a nostalgic journey, aiming to evoke the "Inglés Sin Barreras" course and the diverse musical genres of their upbringing.
Their sound is deeply rooted in their experiences growing up between the Bronx and the Dominican Republic. The EP revisits the formative years when genres like bachata, merengue, metal, punk, rap, and electronic music coexisted. Tracks such as "Abnormales" and "That's My Bitch" have already gained significant traction. Other songs like "Arthur Ave" and "Teteo In The Bronx" pay homage to their New York City upbringing and vibrant culture.
Planta Industrial has announced plans for more music and performances. They are scheduled to appear at the Viva Pomona Festival imminently and will perform at the Vive Latino Festival in Mexico City in March 2026. Their innovative approach to genre-blending promises continued growth and broader appeal within the music scene.
