26 May
Summary
- New lyrics swap 500 miles for 79, representing parent travel distances.
- Music video features children treated for serious illnesses.
- Charity provided 8,488 families with accommodation last year.

The iconic song 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)' by The Proclaimers has been updated with new lyrics by Pixie Lott. The reimagined version, titled 'I'm Gonna Be ('79 Miles)', reflects the average 79-mile journey parents undertake to visit their seriously ill or injured children in hospital. McDonald's partnered with Lott for this campaign to raise awareness for the Ronald McDonald House charity.
A music video for the song features children who have battled serious illnesses, alongside their siblings. The video also includes parents who have traveled significant distances, such as 72 miles and 55 miles, to stay at Ronald McDonald Houses while their children received treatment. These houses offer accommodation for families needing to stay close to their hospitalized children.
Last year, Ronald McDonald House UK supported 8,488 families, providing them with places to stay for an average of 16 nights. This initiative helped families collectively save 10 million miles of travel to and from hospitals during critical times.
