Summary
- Mabel transfers consciousness into a robotic beaver.
- Film inspired by Avatar and Mission: Impossible.
- Focuses on saving woodland habitat from destruction.
Pixar's latest original film, Hoppers, set for release on March 6, 2026, introduces a unique premise where an animal lover named Mabel inhabits a robotic beaver. This groundbreaking concept, pitched by Daniel Chong of We Bare Bears fame, was heavily influenced by major cinematic works, notably James Cameron's Avatar and the Mission: Impossible series.
Mabel's adventure begins when she utilizes a new invention from her biology professor, allowing human consciousness to be temporarily transferred. Her journey into the robotic beaver's form leads her to discover the local woodland animal community and their struggle against a construction company threatening their habitat. Jon Hamm voices Mayor Jerry, the antagonist in this environmental narrative.
The film features a star-studded voice cast, including Meryl Streep as the Insect Queen, Bobby Moynihan, Kathy Najimy, Dave Franco, and several Saturday Night Live alumni. Despite recent challenges with original film successes, Pixar hopes Hoppers will resonate with audiences, alongside upcoming sequels like Toy Story 5 and Incredibles and Coco sequels.
