Captain Hector Barbossa may be sailing back into the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, as actor Geoffrey Rush has indicated his openness to reprising the iconic role. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been developing a sixth installment for years, with recent comments suggesting progress is underway. Rush, who has portrayed Barbossa across multiple films since "The Curse of the Black Pearl," has stated he would only return if the character's reappearance was handled thoughtfully, perhaps as a spectral presence.

His potential return comes after Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner, also shared his interest in rejoining the series. The involvement of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow is still a question mark, though Bruckheimer has indicated support for his inclusion. Depp is slated for a significant big-screen return in "Ebenezer," scheduled for release on November 13, 2026, which also features "Pirates" actor Sam Claflin.

Barbossa's character has a history of returning from the dead within the franchise's narrative, initially resurrected in "Dead Man's Chest" after dying in the first film. His last appearance in "Dead Men Tell No Tales" saw him as a successful pirate and father, ultimately sacrificing himself for his daughter.
