The "Black Strat" was fundamental to the recording of Pink Floyd's most celebrated albums, including "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wish You Were Here." Gilmour utilized the guitar for iconic tracks such as "Money" and his solo on "Comfortably Numb." Its estimated value prior to the auction was between $2 to $4 million.
In addition to the "Black Strat," Jerry Garcia's custom-made guitar, "Tiger," also fetched a significant sum, selling for $11.56 million. This collection is part of "The Jim Irsay Collection," which features numerous memorabilia items compiled by the Indianapolis Colts owner.
