Summary

- Spencer's book inaccurately claimed Morgan published intrusive gym photos of Diana.
- Morgan threatened legal action over the alleged fabrication in Spencer's book.

Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, has issued an apology to Piers Morgan. The apology addresses an incorrect assertion made within Spencer's memoir, 'Swan Song.' This book had previously gained significant media attention for its controversial claims, including an alleged comment by King Charles III about Diana being forgotten.
Spencer's memoir falsely stated that Morgan, during his tenure as editor of The Daily Mirror, published intrusive gym photographs of Princess Diana. Morgan, however, presented evidence on his show, 'Piers Morgan Uncensored,' refuting this claim. He detailed that the photographs in question were published by The Sunday Mirror in November 1993, a time when Morgan did not join The Daily Mirror until October 1995. At the time of the gym pictures, Morgan was working for The Sun.
Morgan has indicated that he and his publishers will be hearing from his lawyers. He is seeking the removal of the falsehood from Spencer's book and a donation to The King's Trust for the damage caused by the lie. Spencer's representative acknowledged the error concerning the gym photos, stating that accuracy is important to the Earl. However, Spencer maintained the accuracy of a separate recollection regarding a phone call where he informed Morgan he was not welcome at Diana's funeral.
