Phoenix Art Museum Wins Top State Art Award

The Phoenix Art Museum has been awarded the title of the top art museum in Arizona, as determined by a reader poll. This esteemed institution has served the community for over six decades, consistently emphasizing growth, innovation, and imagination through the power of art. Its commitment to accessibility is evident through programs such as 'pay what you wish' Wednesdays and active participation in downtown Phoenix's First Fridays events.

The museum's origins trace back to the Phoenix Women's Club's pledge to acquire new artworks annually, establishing the foundation for its current collection. Over the years, various community groups united to form the Phoenix Fine Arts Association, which presented exhibitions and eventually led to the development of a dedicated art museum. Despite wartime interruptions, the project continued post-war, culminating in the museum's opening on November 18, 1959.

Today, the Phoenix Art Museum welcomes an average of 250,000 guests annually. Visitors can explore critically acclaimed national and international exhibitions alongside the museum's extensive personal collection, which comprises more than 21,000 works spanning art, fashion, and photography. The museum is located at 1625 N. Central Ave. and offers various admission prices depending on age and student status.
