The 30th edition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) has revealed its competition and first feature film selections. This year's festival will present 21 world premieres and three international premieres, with films exploring themes of coming of age, family relationships, and significant social issues. Organizers noted a recurring presence of strong mother figures, illustrating complex tensions between love, responsibility, loyalty, and independence.
Festival curator Triin Tramberg highlighted that discovery is central to PÖFF's official competition. The selection features a blend of established directors and filmmakers making their second features, fostering a meeting point for diverse cinematic perspectives. This approach ensures a rich variety in geography, style, and subject matter, all united by a strong narrative drive and the exploration of familiar themes from unexpected viewpoints.
PÖFF 2026 is set to occur in the Estonian capital from November 6 to November 22. The announced films include titles in the Official Competition and the First Feature Competition, representing a wide range of international cinema.
