In October 2025, HBO is set to premiere a prequel series to the hit It films, titled It: Welcome to Derry. The series, which takes place in 1962 - 27 years before the events of It Chapter One - will delve deeper into the origins of the shape-shifting entity known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
According to the show's director and executive producer, Andy Muschietti, the series will use the book's five interludes as a blueprint to tell a "hidden story" about how "It becomes Pennywise." The team, which includes executive producer Barbara Muschietti and co-showrunners Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, worked closely with Stephen King to bring this expanded lore to life.
The cast, which includes Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk, and others, promises that viewers will "fall in love" with the new characters and "fear for them" as Pennywise's reign of terror unfolds in 1960s Derry. The series will also explore the social and racial tensions of the era, providing a rich backdrop for the horror to come.
