The members of the Japanese action comic punk band Peelander-Z were seriously injured in a car crash on the afternoon of May 18th in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their tour van was rear-ended by a semi-truck on I-40, leading to extensive trauma for the trio.
All three band members, known for their color-based pseudonyms, are in intensive care with injuries including broken bones, fractured vertebrae, and broken ribs. Member Peelander Yellow has been taken off a ventilator and is showing promising signs, though he sustained multiple spinal fractures, rib and arm fractures, and a traumatic brain injury. Peelander Pink suffered leg and pelvic fractures, along with abdominal trauma. Peelander Tiger has a head injury being monitored for traumatic brain injury but is progressing well.
The band has canceled all subsequent tour dates. A GoFundMe campaign to support medical expenses for Yellow, Pink, and Tiger has raised over $156,000 of its $170,000 goal. A benefit show organized by local Albuquerque bands is scheduled for May 29th to aid the group.
