A conceptual artwork by the late Dutch artist Wim T. Schippers, Pindakaasvloer, has been recreated at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. This unique piece, first conceived in 1969, features a floor entirely covered with over 800 pounds of peanut butter. The exhibition is a tribute to Schippers, who died last month at the age of 83, and is scheduled to be accessible to the public for two months.
Schippers was known for his absurdist and thought-provoking works, including his "Floor Covering Series." The Pindakaasvloer required significant effort to install, with museum staff using trowels to spread approximately 40 buckets of smooth peanut butter to a thickness of 2 centimeters across a 25-square-meter area. The scent of peanut butter permeated the space during previous showings, adding another sensory dimension to the experience.
