Paula Cole Unearths Musical Treasure Trove

Singer-songwriter Paula Cole has released "Sonic Memoir: Demos 1989-1998," an album compiling 63 tracks from her early career. The project originated when Cole digitized old analog tapes and uncovered over 100 unreleased songs and demos from her collaborations with music mentor Mark Hutchins.

These recordings, featuring unreleased material and early versions of her popular songs, document Cole's artistic evolution. She reflects on the raw, sometimes imperfect nature of the demos, appreciating the self-production skills they fostered before the advent of home digital studios. Cole aims for the album to be an "oral autobiography" and a tribute to her supportive collaborators.

Cole considers "Sonic Memoir" a heartfelt expression for her dedicated fanbase, acknowledging their long-standing support. The release is also seen as a way to honor her younger, more eccentric self and the social and political consciousness present in her early songwriting.
