Paul Simon's 'Quiet Celebration' Unfurls Amidst Summer Storm

Paul Simon, aged 84, recently performed an intimate concert at Meadow Brook Amphitheatre in Rochester Hills on June 20th, 2026, as part of his "A Quiet Celebration" tour. The 2.5-hour show began with an opening verse of "The Sacred Harp" as a summer storm began, setting a unique atmosphere.

Simon opened the concert by performing his entire latest album, "Seven Psalms," released in 2023. Accompanied by an ensemble featuring vocal harmonies from his wife, Edie Brickell, he created a thoughtfully arranged soundscape with delicate guitar, subtle percussion, and counterpoint from a flute, viola, and cello.

Despite dealing with significant hearing loss and performing seated for much of the night, Simon's creative spirit shone through. An innovative stage monitor setup has enabled him to return to touring after his previously billed farewell tour in 2018. The "A Quiet Celebration" tour, which launched last year, continued its run through Europe and is now back in America.

Following an intermission, Simon played beloved hits and deeper cuts from his extensive catalog. The setlist included "Homeward Bound," "Graceland," "St. Judy's Comet," and "Something So Right." He concluded the night with a solo acoustic performance of "The Sound of Silence."

This Meadow Brook performance on June 20th, 2026, is part of a new leg of shows running through July. A Disney+ and Hulu special documenting the tour is set to premiere this Friday, with a new album scheduled for release on October 9th, 2026.
