David Letterman, in a statement released recently, praised Shaffer as a "show business friend who became a real friend," commending his comedic timing and musical contributions. The documentary will trace Shaffer's path from his beginnings in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to his early break directing music for the 1972 Toronto production of 'Godspell.'
Shaffer's extensive career includes work on Broadway and as the musical director for 'Saturday Night Live.' He famously joined David Letterman in 1982 for 'Late Night With David Letterman' and later moved with him to CBS for 'The Late Show,' leading the CBS Orchestra until 2015.
