Mescal Films Young McCartney in Liverpool

Paul Mescal is currently filming scenes as a youthful Paul McCartney in Liverpool for an ambitious four-film anthology directed by Sam Mendes. The project chronicles The Beatles' rise to global stardom. Mescal was recently observed riding a vintage bicycle through a quiet Liverpool street, portraying McCartney as a teenager. This filming took place at 20 Forthlin Road, McCartney's childhood home, which is now a National Trust property and considered 'the birthplace of The Beatles'.

The production has also filmed scenes in London, recreating Beatlemania in New York. Mescal, who recently attended the BAFTA Awards, has joined the crew in Liverpool. The anthology will feature Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, with a supporting cast including Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney and Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd.

This cinematic event is significant as it marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd and The Beatles—Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison—have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film series. Each film will offer the perspective of one band member, tracing their journey from Liverpool unknowns to global icons before their eventual breakup in 1970.
