K-Drama Star's English Debut in Singapore Microdrama

South Korean actor Park stars in 'One Year Love,' a new microdrama filmed in Singapore and set to debut on the COL International app on April 9. This production marks Park's first acting role, his first overseas project, and his inaugural performance in English. The series is described as a "high-stakes romance built on a simple lie," focusing on a marriage of convenience between a Korean expat and a Singaporean workaholic.

Park expressed optimism about the growth potential of microdramas, citing audience familiarity with short-form video content. The global microdrama industry, already valued in the billions, is seeing significant expansion across Asia as countries aim to reduce reliance on established markets. FlareFlow, the app hosting the series, boasts 33 million users globally and has released approximately 5,200 series to date.

This microdrama is notable for blending regional talent with storytelling aimed at a worldwide audience. Bryan Choo, CEO of TSL, is fully financing the series. Park contrasted the microdrama filming schedule with his experience on Netflix's 'Single's Inferno,' appreciating the better energy management it allowed. He hopes this Singapore production will lead to more international work opportunities.

Timothy Oh, General Manager of COL Group International, emphasized the company's commitment to backing local storytelling for global competition. 'One Year Love' serves as an example of a Singapore-led narrative designed for international appeal, reflecting the mature and revenue-seeking nature of the expanding microdrama market.
