Paris Cinema Bitten: Bedbugs Close Cinémathèque

The Cinémathèque Française, a globally respected film archive and cinema in Paris, has announced a month-long closure of its screening halls. This measure is in response to a bedbug infestation, with reports of sightings and bites occurring during recent events, notably a master class featuring actress Sigourney Weaver. The institution aims to guarantee a completely safe and comfortable environment for its patrons.

To eradicate the pests, all seats will be meticulously dismantled and treated with dry steam at 180C, followed by systematic checks. Carpets and other affected areas will undergo the same rigorous treatment. While the screening halls are closed, other parts of the building, including an exhibition on Orson Welles, will remain accessible to the public.

This incident highlights a growing concern in France, which has seen a significant increase in bedbug numbers across public spaces like transport and cinemas. The government has initiated efforts to combat this issue, particularly with the upcoming Paris Olympics, and has noted that disinformation campaigns have amplified public alarm.
