In a recent interview, veteran actor Pankaj Kapur has spoken candidly about his son Shahid Kapoor's acting journey and his performance in the controversial film Kabir Singh. Pankaj praised Shahid's natural talent, revealing that he had given him little formal training in acting.
Pankaj explained that he had long believed Shahid's true potential lay in drama, which was later tapped by filmmakers like Vishal Bhardwaj. He said these films played a significant role in bringing out the actor within Shahid, who also became more discerning about the projects he chose to do.
When asked about Shahid's performance in Kabir Singh, a film widely debated for glorifying toxic masculinity, Pankaj defended his son's work. He stated that "toxic masculinity exists in society, and because somebody made a film on it, we started objecting to it." Pankaj clarified that while he had not formally trained Shahid in acting, he did help him with a brief 6-7 day workshop.
Shahid is currently busy with several upcoming projects, including Cocktail 2 and Vishal Bhardwaj's next film, which will mark their fourth collaboration.
