Panjab University's Zonal Youth Festival Ignites Punjabi Cultural Pride

On October 11, 2025, the Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival organized by Panjab University opened with a vibrant celebration of Punjabi culture in Ludhiana. The four-day event, which ran until October 14, has drawn participants from 27 colleges affiliated with the university.

Students and faculty gathered to showcase Punjab's rich cultural heritage and youthful creativity through dozens of competitions and performances. The opening day saw five campus venues buzzing with activities, including Shabad/Bhajan, Classical Dance, Group Dance, Folk Orchestra, Folk Instruments, Folk Songs, and traditional Punjabi dialogues known as Muhavaredaar Vartalaap.

Alongside the performances, the festival also featured heritage activities such as Guddiyan Patole (dolls), Chikku and Paranda making, Rassa (rope) and Peerhi (stool) weaving, Khiddo toys, and Mitti de Khidone (clay crafts) – each reflecting Punjab's rural artistry and cultural roots.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, who was joined by other distinguished guests. Participants expressed their excitement at being part of an initiative that keeps their cultural traditions alive, with professors playing a crucial role in their preparation.

Judges praised the students' energy and creativity, noting their skill in quickly assembling the performances and displays. However, they also urged colleges to prioritize cultural education more deeply, ensuring that Punjab's rich legacy continues to inspire future generations.
