Panettiere: Ventimiglia romance felt like marriage

Hayden Panettiere reflected on her past relationship with Milo Ventimiglia, a romance that began when she was 18 and he was 30. Panettiere, who starred alongside Ventimiglia on "Heroes," stated in May 2026 that she viewed him as her partner and anticipated their relationship would progress toward marriage.

The couple first made public appearances together in 2007, including promoting "Heroes" at events like Comic-Con and attending the premiere of Ventimiglia's short film "It's a Mall World." Panettiere also accompanied Ventimiglia to a charity event in Los Angeles in November 2007.

Their relationship concluded in February 2009, after nearly two years together. Sources cited a "lifestyle conflict" as the reason for their split, suggesting they were in "very different places" in their lives and careers.

Panettiere later described a breakup in which Ventimiglia initially ended things but took her back after witnessing her intense emotional reaction. She recalled the moment as "out of left field" and her world "crumbled," but noted that no infidelity or major issue had occurred.

Ventimiglia, who married model Jarah Mariano in 2023 and has a daughter, told The Journal in September 2017 that his experiences dating costars, including Panettiere and Alexis Bledel, taught him "never do it again," learning valuable lessons from all life experiences.

Panettiere also reflected on relationship difficulties, mentioning a "point of contention" where she struggled to say "I love you," finding it uncomfortable and only able to express affection casually, which she later understood as a sign of differing maturity levels in the relationship.
