Panama Film: A Bold Vision for Unconventional Cinema

Panama Film, established in Vienna in 2018 by producers Lixi Frank and David Bohun, cultivates a unique approach to cinema, drawing inspiration from the idea of Panama as a faraway, yet accessible, state of mind. The company actively seeks filmmakers who express challenging questions, lingering observations, and lost longings through unconventional and distinct cinematic styles.

Since its inception, Panama Film has garnered critical acclaim at various festivals. Notable successes include Sebastian Brameshuber's 'Movements of a Nearby Mountain,' Sandra Wollner's 'The Trouble With Being Born,' Bernhard Braunstein's 'Stams,' and Timm Kröger's 'The Universal Theory.' Most recently, 'Bluish' and 'White Snail' received accolades at FID Marseille and the Locarno Film Festival, respectively.

As of May 2026, Panama Film is set to make a significant impact at the Cannes Film Festival with two selected titles. Sandra Wollner's 'Everytime' will premiere in the Un Certain Regard section, while Valeska Grisebach's 'The Dreamed Adventure' is in competition. Lixi Frank is also recognized in the European Film Promotion's Producers on the Move showcase.

The company's production slate includes Patric Chiha's 'Ice Cream,' a drama about young love and discovery in Vienna, and Alexandra Makarová's 'Fanny Is Alive,' a period drama set in post-war Vienna. They are also involved in co-producing Simon Maria Kubiena's 'The Flowering of a Chimera.'
