Overmono, the electronic duo comprised of brothers Tom and Ed Russell, has announced their forthcoming album, Pure Devotion. This highly anticipated follow-up to their 2023 debut, Good Lies, is scheduled for release on August 7.
The new album will feature guest contributions from a range of artists including Ruthven, Kindora, Rock Floyd, and John Joseph Holt. Today, Overmono also unveiled "Lockup," the album's lead single.
In creating Pure Devotion, Overmono aimed to emphasize the tangible aspects of studio work. They utilized a variety of unconventional and hands-on methods to produce the album's distinctive sounds.
Among their peculiar techniques, the duo reported running tape over magnets, intentionally blowing up speakers, and employing an old, overclocked FX unit. Notably, they even oven-baked a cymbal that had been coated in coffee grounds, crisps, and vinegar.
The lead single, "Lockup," reimagines "What A Waste" by the Birmingham post-punk group Fast Relief, transforming it into an energetic, four-on-the-floor club track, showcasing their innovative approach to sound design.
