Summary
- Osgood Perkins' new horror film defies expectations
- Tatiana Maslany delivers a powerful performance
- Critics have mixed reactions, from praise to harsh criticism

As of November 14th, 2025, Osgood Perkins' latest horror film has been the subject of much speculation and debate. The movie, which features Tatiana Maslany in the lead role, is described by critics as a genre-blending thriller that unfolds like an onion.
According to Bill Bria of SlashFilm, the film is a "big bowl of horror movie stew" that incorporates various subgenres in a way that horror fans will appreciate. The basic premise involves Maslany's character, Liz, traveling to a cabin with her boyfriend Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland) for an anniversary weekend. However, when Malcolm unexpectedly leaves Liz alone, the story takes a dark and surreal turn.
Aidan Kelley of Collider praises Perkins for taking the "cabin in the woods" trope and doing something unique with it. Meanwhile, Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter says the film is as "surreal as a nightmare" and equally as illogical, though she notes the ending doesn't feel like a letdown.
Not all critics are as enthusiastic, however. Alison Foreman of IndieWire calls Keeper Osgood Perkins' "worst movie yet," stating that even Tatiana Maslany's powerful performance can't save it from the director's "fractured filmmaking and palpable insecurity." IGN also rates the film a "Mediocre" 5 out of 10, though they acknowledge Maslany's performance as a saving grace.
