Several of the year's top Oscar contenders for best picture are slated for theatrical re-releases on select Imax 70mm screens. This move aims to bring these acclaimed films back to audiences before Hollywood's biggest night.
Notable titles making a comeback include "Sinners," which was shot on 70mm film and is the only film between "Oppenheimer" and "Odyssey" to utilize Imax film cameras. The film has secured a record 16 Oscar nominations. "One Battle After Another," a recipient of 13 Oscar nominations, will also be shown on Imax 70mm.
Additionally, A24's nine-time nominee "Marty Supreme" will have a nationwide Imax run starting January 30, 2026. Netflix's "Frankenstein" recently had a brief theatrical return, including a stop at the TLC Chinese Imax in Los Angeles.
This year marks a significant period for Imax, with numerous blockbusters and auteur films leveraging its unique presentation format. Films like "Sinners," "One Battle After Another," and "F1" were shot using Imax cameras, contributing to Imax ticket sales accounting for at least 20% of their domestic opening box office.
