Summary

- Lawsuit claims father's life depicted inaccurately without consent.
- Court hearing scheduled for February 6, 2026, to decide film's fate.

A legal challenge has been mounted against the theatrical release of the film O'Romeo, scheduled for February 13, 2026. Sanober Shaikh, daughter of the late Hussain Ustara, has filed a civil suit in a Mumbai court, seeking to prevent the movie's distribution.
Shaikh's lawsuit alleges that O'Romeo is an unauthorized biographical portrayal of her father and contends that his life has been inaccurately represented. She further claims that no prior consent was obtained from her family for the film's production, which she believes is intended for commercial gain.
The suit, naming producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bhardwaj among defendants, emphasizes the potential for "irreparable injury" and damage to the family's reputation. Although the filmmakers have denied the film is a biopic, stating it is purely fictional, Shaikh has requested a court pre-screening.
The civil court is slated to hear the case on February 6, 2026, to determine whether to grant temporary or permanent injunctions against the film's release.
