The Order of Prince Edward Island will recognize three prominent Islanders in 2026. This award, established in 1996, celebrates individual excellence and outstanding leadership within the community or chosen profession, representing the highest civic honor.
Dr. Scott Cameron is acknowledged for his foundational work in developing the Island's emergency medical care system. His early efforts professionalized ambulance services, and he later chaired the Emergency Medical Services Board during its transition to a provincewide system. He also championed clinical guidelines and the establishment of the College of Paramedicine.
Eileen Chiasson-Pendergast is honored for her lifelong dedication to fostering Acadian and francophone language and culture, particularly in her home community of Tignish. She was instrumental in establishing French first-language education in West Prince and has actively promoted cultural expression through music and drama.
Dave Stewart is recognized for his extensive contributions to creative culture and his advocacy for P.E.I.'s 2SLGBTQIA+ community. His work as a writer, cartoonist, and filmmaker, including documentaries on local LGBTQ+ history, preserves vital heritage. He has also volunteered with PEERS Alliance and Pride P.E.I., and supported local arts venues.
