The Orchestral Qawwali Project (OQP), an innovative ensemble fusing Qawwali and Sufi poetry with Western classical orchestration, will undertake its first-ever India tour in December. This collaboration brings together traditional Qawwali vocals, Indian classical influences, symphonic compositions, and choral arrangements.
Founded by composer Rushil Ranjan and vocalist Abi Sampa, OQP has previously performed at prestigious international venues like London's Royal Albert Hall. Their vision is to present Qawwali's spiritual essence within a new musical dimension.
The India tour commences on December 5th at Yashobhoomi, Delhi. Subsequent performances are scheduled for Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The production features a full orchestra, choir, traditional musicians, percussion, and Indian classical dance, showcasing pieces like 'Man Kunto Maula' and an original composition, 'Rubaru'.
